Cross country skiing is a healthful, outdoor sport. CXC Skiing changes lives by introducing youth to sport and making it possible for disabled individuals to enjoy the outdoors like never before.
Last weekend I felt a lot of pride watching the CXC Junior Cup races at Elver Park in Madison. It’s always gratifying to watch young athletes compete on a racing track you prepared. But it was especially noteworthy as I watched the joy in the eyes of Brenden Ojibway.
Brenden spends his life in a wheelchair. Except for when he’s on the ski tracks in a sit-ski. I remember the first time Brenden, as a young boy, experienced cross country skiing. The joy on his face told the story. Brenden and many others have benefited from the innovative sit skis CXC Skiing produces - over 300 have been built and distributed to individuals and CXC clubs.
A lot of what CXC Skiing does was on display last week in Elver Park. The snowmaking that provided the opportunity for nearly 200 athletes to compete. The partnership with a new organizing group from Madison Nordic Ski Club. And the sense of accomplishment we saw with Brenden Ojibway in his sit ski.
There’s nothing more powerful than seeing a smile cross the face of a young boy or girl when they accomplish something new! Last weekend in Houghton, Mich. a record field of over 400 athletes took part in the opening of our CXC Cup. It was a showcase of all we do in CXC Skiing!
As I stood trackside I was mesmerized by the pride on the faces of the Under 14 athletes in the CXC Youth Cup - many competing for the very first time. I took personal pride while watching teenaged skiers in the CXC Junior Cup, knowing they came through our CXC development pathway.

It is with excitement that we announce our 6th consecutive Year End Challenge Grant program, ‘Support our Sport’.
Like you, we at Central Cross Country Skiing (CXC) love cross country skiing and want others to join us. There are very few lifelong sports where families can enjoy an active lifestyle outdoors.
With our Year End Challenge Grant program, we are seeking to raise $45,000 to support our sport.
Whether you give $25, $500 or $1,000 - it all makes a difference.
Your tax deductible donation will help us introduce more boys and girls to cross country skiing through Nordic Rocks for Schools. It will help us donate another sit ski to a physically challenged skier. Or it will help fuel the Olympic dreams of a junior athlete.
Take a look at the programs below to learn more about what we do. And pledge your support today. We have just 28 days remaining this year to achieve our goal of $45,000 with this campaign.
Executive Director, CXC
Dear fellow skier,
As a cross country skier, you know how it feels to be out on the trail. It’s a quiet energy as your skis glide through the tracks, as freshly-fallen snow clings to the branches of the trees.
At CXC Skiing, it’s our mission to bring that feeling to others. Our award-winning nordic rocks program has introduced that feeling to over 17,000 young boys and girls! Last week, over a dozen junior athletes had the thrill of skiing out in the Rockies at our annual West Yellowstone Junior Camp. And our innovative CXC Adaptive Program has provided cross country ski equipment and sit-ski frames to over 300 physical and visual challenged men and women - giving them a chance to do something of which they had only dreamed.
At CXC Skiing, we are changing lives through cross country skiing.
This week is #GivingTuesday - a day our nation comes together to support their passion to help others. Our goal is to raise $45,000 through December. And to kick it off on #GivingTuesday, we have a matching grant for the first $1,000 we raise. If you can make a donation of $25 to CXC Skiing today, our donor will match the $25 making it $50 to support programs like Nordic Rocks.
As a cross country skier, join us in spreading the word about our sport. Help a young boy or girl experience that thrill. Help provide a military veteran at VA hospitals throughout the Midwest know the joy of skiing.
